Week 1 Weigh-In

Well, a week has gone by and I’m still focused and strong! I have made some mistakes and learned from them, I have conquered the majority of my cravings and I’m more determined than ever to stick with the Medifast program.

You’ll notice I never say “diet” when I talk about my journey. There are a number of reasons for this and I suppose the dumbest of which is simply referring to a lifestyle change with a word containing “die” has some negative impact on my thinking.

The biggest reason I never use the word diet (other than to speak of past weigh loss attempts) is that I am trying to focus on what I am really doing which is changing the way I eat and view food in general. I am on a program to reduce my body weight and keep it off. It is a journey and a lifestyle, not a fad! Diets are for waif-like actresses who eat popcorn for a week to get a part in a movie, not for people who need serious, life-changing weight loss. We need a “weight loss program” and some thinking changes!

Anyway, the moment you’ve all been waiting for (well, I have been waiting for), my weigh-in. I’m excited to say I finished week 1 with a whopping 11lbs. of weight loss! I am so stoked! I know, I know, the first week is always huge and I shouldn’t expect to see the same next week. Call it water weight, call it what you like, I call it 11lbs. less of my butt stretching out my pants and a major victory for a fat guy like me!

Hello Brett. I’ve tried a lot of fad diets and many program diets and I have always found that the fad diets help me lose weight by harming my system, and the program diets have horrible tasting food. Always thought this was subconscious to make you hate food.

I travel a lot for work and have the occasional company dinner to attend to so I am going to try the 5 & 1 plan. Planning to order next week. Are you doing mostly shakes or shakes and the other Medifast foods like oatmeal and soups?

Hey Scott, I’m doing a variety of the products for the most part. It gives you some, well…variety in your daily diet! I have to be honest with you, having some prior experience with Medifast and having had quite a few friends do it, I have found that you will definitely find that you favor some foods over others. Each person seems to have their loves and their hates but for the most part the products are really good.

If you are concerned about portability and ease of use so to speak, shakes are the way to go. You can mix them anywhere on the fly. When I’m busy, I will typically grab a small bottled water, drink half, put the shake in and drink the other half.

My typical day goes something like this…

7:00am Bowl of Oatmeal
9:30am Shake or Bar
12:00pm Lean & Green
3:00pm Shake
6:00pm Soup
8:30pm Pudding or Shake

My biggest struggle honestly has been getting in all of the meals, especially during the day when I’m busy at work. I can understand your struggles traveling for work and needing to eat on the road, just make sure you pack some food!

This plan works, you just have to stick with it. You should see some weight loss pretty quickly and an almost immediate decrease in appetite!
