Scale = Truth

You know how they say, “You don’t just diet, you have to make a lifestyle change?” I wouldn’t go that far, but I wouldn’t do what I did over the last month either.

After losing 40 pounds, I transitioned with much success. I was maintaining my weight by continuing to eat 2 or 3 Medifast Meals a day. I was looking phenomenal and felt so happy. It was easy to maintain. So I don’t know what came over me between my birthday, Valentine’s Day and numerous dinners out. I splurged to the tenth degree. I went off the deep end. I have had drinks, fondue, ice cream, pasta galore, and my favorite sandwich, the Rueben.

I have been avoiding my friend the scale because I know that it would tell me what my jeans have been gossiping about for the past 2 weeks. I knew once I got on the scale my feeding frenzy would be over.

Finally, last night, I faced the truth of the scale. I gained 9.3 pounds over the last month.  AAARRRGGGG!!! What did I do?!?! Why have I been such a slack tail?!? The horror.

I am done beating myself up. This is a minor setback. I know what to do and I know that I can do it with ease. I have plenty of Medifast food and I will be able to drop these “overindulging setback pounds” quickly.

The moral of this story is this: Even if you lose 40 pounds in a healthy way, no one is immune to the evils of cheese, ice cream and the Rueben. They will sneak up and jump on your hips with no concern for all your hard work. But, if you follow the rules, you will find so much success. I wouldn’t say you have to make “a total lifestyle change” but I have to remember how I got to weigh 191 in the first place.

Wish me luck in the next week or two. 150 here I come (again).

I wish that I could afford this program. I’ve tried everything to lose weight and it just doesn’t seem to work. Some of the things that I have tried have even caused me to gain more weight. You are all so lucky and I only wish that it was that easy for everyone. I would try just about anything to lose weight. Goodluck to you all!

To Wendy: I hear you about not beable to afford the cost of the meals, but don’t be discouraged because as it has been said, “If there is a will there is a way!”

This probably isn’t the best way to promote MF way but if they are truly for seeing good health promoted and not what they can get out of it then I don’t suppose they would mind my sharing this (if you haven’t considered this already)and plus they wouldn’t be giving the reader the ideas if they truly weren’t for helping people lose weight. So my suggestion is since you can’t afford it….then buy the foods and drinks they suggest on your own. Really it’s all about convience and since it costs a little bit more for the convience you’ll just have to do it on your own. Remember it’s not so much MF food that will make you lose weight, rather it is the portion and the kind of foods you eat that will get you great results.

Try it and get on the weight loss train with everyone else!

I know that the cost can seem daunting but add up the cost of your meals, drinks, snacks from the vending machine at work or the quick lunch from the fast food joint. See how much you spend on the food you eat now. If the cost is even close it’s worth it. Your health is worth it.

Hello everyone. I have been reading about this program for about 5 days now, and I am seriously considering it. I am just afraid that these shakes and bars will tast like chalk, then I will really be dissapointed. I have been struggling with my weight all of my life and I am so down on myself. I am scared that my skin will sag and my hair will fall out like a friend of mine had when she was just on the MF but pure shakes. I want to loose the weight so bad it hurts to even talk about it. And if I don’t see results quickly, I get discouraged. Rationally I know it took a long time to put the weight on, but I want to see results fast. Can anyone tell me their experience with the products as far as taste and what kind of time frame am I looking at realistically. I read the success stories but it gives a disclaimer that these results are not typical. HELP!!

Thank You for sharing that. I have never allowed
a scale into the house but now I will have to get one fot the program. I think that was keeping me
from facing the reality that I have gained so much weight.

This is the facts from a real life MF user. I am a registered nurse and started the program last June weighing 261. I was desperate. I was considering gastric bypass but my husband wouldn’t let me. I was really scared of bypass because I knew the dangers associated with it. I had tried EVERYTHING! I was so depressed about my weight. I was going to give MF a try and give it my all. The first three days were depressing. I missed my old friend, food. After the first 3 days, my spirits were lifted, I guess it was the ketosis. I lost 9 lbs. the first week, 4 the second, NONE the third (very normal), then about 2 each week after that. In 3 months I lost 42 lbs. I lost 18 lbs. per month for the first two months. I went on to lose 50 in 4 months. I lead a totally sugar-free lifestyle and watched all my carbs. I kept it all off during Halloween (2 kids, means lots of CANDY), Thanksgiving, and even Christmas. But, as I started transitioning and adding back carbs, the cravings were coming back. I allowed myself to cheat on Valentine’s Day and that was it. I have gained back 12 lbs. and beat myself up about it. I will lose 5 or 6 and gain it right back. I am still struggling. I went back on MF today. I am making small goals, I told myself to stick with it and stay strong for 5 days. I will probably lose about 8 lbs. in 5 days. Then, I will reevaluate. I will either stay on it another 5 or try to transition again. Just set small goals, then it doesn’t look so bad.
As far as taste, it is doable. I have not ever been able to tolerate any liquid diet but I was able to do this. I think the powder shakes are chalky, but here is a big secret: mix your shakes and put in the fridge over night. That dissolves more of the chalky particles and makes them a lot creamier. I can not drink a shake immediately after mixing. Also, I now buy the ready-to-drink shakes. They are a bit more costly, but having them ready in the fridge keeps me on track better. I like the chocolate mint bars and the chocolate bars. I didn’t use any of the oatmeals or soups, I personally didn’t like them.
I hope this info helps you. When I lost my weight I read the boards daily. I prayed for success for myself as well as the friends I made on the boards. Good luck!

I went on Medifast last June and by September had lost almost 40 lbs. I felt fantastic. During the fall, we moved in to a new house, moved our office, had a death in the family and I slacked on what I was suppose to eat. I finally faced the scale again, and had gained back almost 20lbs. I am back on Medifast again, and after 4 days, already feel better and know I can do it again. Reading the blogs really helps and I will do it daily to help inspire and keep me on track.
Thank you Heather for sharing.

Robin, Thank you for your in-sight and sharing your story. I am happy to see that this is real and you can loose a good amount of weight in a short period of time. I too was looing into the bypass, but my family did not like that idea, and I too was scared about the complications that might occur. Did you excerise while on MF?
I did not see the ready to drink shakes but I will look again. After much thouth this weekend. I am going to give this a try. What can I loose? Weight!! Ha Ha I have tried EVERYTHING ELSE too! I am just sick of it all!! This will be my last WHORA!! Thanks for the good wishes and hopefully I will see you again online and give you an update. Take care and keep up the good work!

Can you still have a latte - or did you give them up to? I only drink non-fat but am scared of the caffeine headache.

Hello,I’ve been on the diet for 3 days, and I lost 5 lbs. I know it’s going to be a stuggle every once in awhile, but you have to be determined to be healthy. I’m a manager of a steakhouse,it so easy just to eat what ever I want. I have to change my mind set. The shakes are a lot better when you blend them with ice. I also look forward to eating a dill pickle everyday- something with texture. I ordered the variety pack to get me started, and a couple of days later I orderd some of the snacks, chili, and eggs. I also gave up soda, which you’ll have a caffenine headache the first 3 days, but they were just empty calories. My biggest hurdle will be - not to drink any alcohol, but I’m determined. I’ve also tried every diet in the books, diet pills, ect… I need support and advice to do this and to suceed. Wish me luck!!!

Dear Heather,
I can really relate to you. I lost 60lbs and within 1 1/2 years I have put it back on. It has been a very harsh reality. All those clothes I worked so hard to fit into are collecting dust at the back of my closet. NOT ANYMORE. I just purchased the program tonight and I am ready.

Hello!
It is so inspiring to read all of the posts and positive comments about rapid weight loss, especially in the first week. I know if I can see even a 5-6# weight loss in the first week, I will be able to stick to it.

Today is my first day and I love the Dutch Chocolate shakes, but the oatmeal was really yucky! Any suggestions to make it taste better?

Thanks so much!

Hi…
I have been reading up on this a bit and have noticed blogs about falling off, and gaining the weight back, and once again losing it when going back on MF.

For the people who have done this: do you gain the weight back just by eating relatively healthy, non-MF foods or is it because of unhealthy choices? I would really like to know from someone who is maintaining if this is something that you can do on your own after completing the program, or is it a lifetime committement to MF?

I would like to be able to lose the weight with the help of MF but also be able to live with making good choices without MF for my whole life. Thanks for the feedback!!
Jenna
