My Story

My weight has always fluctuated, which can be a big deal when you’re working in Hollywood and supposed to be a sex symbol. I’ve generally stayed pretty athletic and have been in decent shape with roles such as Buffy and Christie Boner in Dude, Where’s My Car? But after Skating with Celebrities wrapped I put on about 15 unwanted pounds, then I became pregnant and gave birth to my son Magnus in February. So now, with an October wedding on the horizon, it’s time to lose both the baby weight and those initial 15 pounds!

I’d love to get back down to my Buffy the Vampire Slayer weight, which would make me feel great about myself and hopefully open up some new and exciting roles professionally. That’s why when Medifast approached me and told me about their program, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.

About Kristy Swanson:

Swanson, who rose to fame as Buffy in the popular 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, began acting at the age of 9. She appeared in numerous commercials and television shows before moving to film where she landed roles in two John Hughes films, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. From there Swanson landed her first leading role starring in Wes Craven’s thriller Deadly Friend, which earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award.

Swanson went on to star in films such as Flowers in the Attic, which won her a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress in a Horror or Motion Picture; Hot Shots!, alongside Charlie Sheen; and the blockbuster The Program featuring James Caan, Halle Berry and Omar Epps. In 1995 Swanson tackled her most controversial role as a college student discovering her sexuality in John Singleton’s Higher Learning. She then went on to appear in Eight Heads in a Duffel Bag, co-starring Joe Pesci and David Spade; the Adam Sandler blockbuster Big Daddy; and Dude, Where’s My Car? alongside Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott. Swanson also starred as Susan Crawford in the CBS series Grapevine, as well as guest-starring in numerous television shows including Just Shoot Me, CSI: Miami and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Most recently Swanson appeared in and won the reality series Skating with Celebrities.

Kristy, I think it is wonderful of you to put yourself out there and show us that it isn’t easy for anyone (including celebrities) to lose weight. But instead of having cosmetic surgery (like so many other celebs have done - either publicly or privately) you have elected to join the struggle for true weight loss success and work hard for it. Keep up the good work…you are an inspiration to all. I have struggled these past 8 years now to control my weight and know the personal sacrifice…seems like the harder I try the more weight comes back! This program sounds like it would be truly healthy and I wish I were able to afford it, but I am trying to follow your example at home to try to achieve the same results. You WILL get to where you want to be…hey, you have me cheering for you!!!!

Kristy, I have to say I really give you so much credit for The Skating with The Stars.

Ok I think when a person realize that they need to get healthy is the first step in reaching your goal. I myself have lost 190 pounds, I can truly say I did it with healthy eating and exercising on a daily bases. I am 49 years old and I actually feel like I am 39. I have become more confident in my life. I am sure you feel so much better about yourself as I do. I still continue to work out everyday. I will continue to cheer for your goal. Remember always be yourselfs bestfriend first and foremost. I cheer for you.

Hi Kristy,
I saw one of your Medifast commercials last week for the very first time, and I was surprised and proud to see you putting your personal journey out there on the airwaves.
Since the days of Bueller, Buffy and so on, you have always appeared to be the full-bodied, beautiful, athletic, all-American girl next door. In fact, my sister and I wanted to be like you: healthy and strong! Your skating with the stars appearance only reinforced your image to us.
She and I are both in our 30’s and have children. We both need to lose some weight, and we’re interested in learning more about the Medifast program. If it’s affordable enough, we will join. Personally, I have about 50 pounds to lose, and your tremendous success has inspired me.
I can only hope to be as successful as you have been on the program. My thoughts are with you as you and Magnus start your new life with your husband!
Please keep us posted on how things are going.

Take care, and best wishes to you!

Everyone looks so good! I try, try, and try. I have no one to try this with. So I start then I always stop. Then I have 4 kids and money is so low sometimes and I can’t order the way I need to. And I’m such a picky eater I have a hard time picking my meals. It’s good to see how well people are doing. What can I do? Please give me and ideal.
