Throwing Down the Weight Loss Gauntlet

I’ve made the decision to go for 10 more pounds. After having reached my goal, of 30 pounds and a size 6, I’ve had to re-assess if this is really where I want to be. I’m happy to find that this weight loss seems easy to maintain even with the occasional splurge. But after talking to my Health Coach, I think I’m ready to take on a new challenge; to return to my size and weight from my 20’s. My Health Coach has assured me that this is attainable and healthy. Research shows that we can return to a weight that we held in our 20’s if we held that weight for 4-7 years. It’s not realistic to try to go lower than that. So for me 10 more pounds.

Of course the only way forward is to take it a day at a time and stay in close touch with my Coach. But I’m excited about the journey. I guess I really like having a goal, it’s very motivating for me.

I hope you are re-assessing and setting goals for yourselves too, it’s invigorating and positive. Life is so much more interesting and easy when we have hope.

What goal are you pursuing today?

Hi Genie -

Ten more pounds? Good golly, girl - - you look so tiny now I think you’ll disappear!!! But if your health coach gave you the green light and it is something you desire, then by all means go for it! I lost 20+ pounds roughly 2 years ago and have maintained it since then (give or take 5 pounds). As a woman in my 40’s with a history of everything in my family from heart disease to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, staying trim, fit and active is essential to me now. It’s funny how people can be more concerned about what they put into their cars than what they put into their bodies. Thanks for helping to break that trend and being a role model for a healthy life-style!

My goal is to lose 30 pounds because at that weight my diabetic symptoms go away.

I, too, have those last 10 pounds to lose. For the longest time, I just didn’t feel it was possible to lose that weight anymore and was starting to settle on my new low weight. Thanks to your blog, I know that I can lose it.

Dear Genie,

Wow! I have no doubt that you will achieve this further goal and be a success. You continue to be such an inspiration.

The goal that I’m pursuing is body, mind, spirit balance and well-being. The road is long for me to get back to where I want to be. I’ll be happy with my early 30’s weight :-)

I’ve got three bad discs in my back which limits the type of exercise I can do + the medication that I have to take daily for the pain has increased my weight. It’s taking a lot of creative energy to find the right course of action and keep the momentum going.

Every day is a new challenge. As someone who has battled and struggled with the weight albatross most of my life, this added dimension adds different stresses that I’m trying to balance and overcome.

I constantly remind myself that I am exactly where I need to be in this journey while aspiring to live my best possible life! Learning to be accepting of myself with these physical limitations is important as I plug along. So, I think that is where my focus is right now: being happy with who I am at this moment while continuing to move toward the vision that I have in my mind of who I want be inward as well as outward. I hope that makes sense!

Thanks for letting us hear from you! As always, you give me hope!

Blessings to you and yours!
I send you love and butterflies,
Jhill

That is fantastic! My goal is to be in the “shape” I was in when I competed in college athletics. I had been doing great with Medifast but got VERY sick and was put on a steroid for 2 weeks! The doctor didn’t tell me it would make me gain weight. **sigh** So much for my excitement at losing weight from being so sick. Now I am glad to say I am fully recovered and back on track and have lost another 5 lbs since recovering so now am down 20 lbs since Jan 2. Thank you for your continued inspiration!

Hi Genie,
Congrats on the decision to go for the last 10 lbs. In the interest of full disclosure I should admit to being a long time fan (since your first days on GH) and also admit that seeing your progress on The View caused me to take a look at the MF plan. We are of similar age and build and I was completely encouraged by your success. So I embraced the challenge and believe similar success is in the cards for me.

Frankly, I’m glad you’re back just as I’m getting started so I can share in your news as you work toward your goal. I look forward to your next update.

Genie, you look great. I can’t believe that you look as great as you do. I am like the lady with the bad disks. I have to watch what I eat. and when I eat. but, I am getting better. I have just started on this program. and I have a positive outlook, on this. my goal is to lose 75 pounds. I use to weigh, 175, and that is my goal. like you genie. with 2 kids, and your schedule. you look great. keep up the good work. God bless all of you. bonnie

Dear Genie,
Congrats on losing so much weight already! I just know you’re going to lose another 10 pounds.

I have to admit it, I watched North and South the other day and freaked out over every scene with Brett Main Hazard [especially Book 2– because you and Parker Stevenson made an ultra-cute couple.]

Once again, congrats and good luck on the other 10 lbs!! Keep us updated!

You rock Genie!

Southern Love,
Bailey

Hi, Genie! I remember you the most from the North & South tv miniseries. That is one of my all-time favorite Civil War era shows! (I have the box set). Anyway, you still look fantasic!! How do you keep looking so young?
I have a mild weight problem–I’m 25 lbs over–but I don’t have the time, money, or motivation to do something about it. I just figure it’s meant to be for now and I love and accept who I am. As long as I don’t gain any more, I’m happy! I just wanted to say hello and send my best wishes and blessings! :-)

I’m just a guest here, I have been thinking about trying Medifast, and saw that Genie Francis was on here! :):) I’m vegetarian, and my fear is: No rice? Pasta? Potatoes? Does anyone lose weight on this program while incorporating any of these foods on an occasional basis, or do you have to do it 100%? (don’t laugh, I’m serious) I bought some medifast food, and most of it is good, but my options are limited because of me being a vegetarian. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. By the way, GREAT JOB to those of you who have made this work for you! I’m jealous. :):)

Hi Genie,
I was at my lowest weight in my 20’s. That is my goal weight, but I was wondering why they say you have to have maintained that weight for several years. I would love to be able to reach my old fighting weight again, but I didn’t maintain it for that long. Could you please explain why that would make a difference? And thank you so much for sharing your story here. It helps to see how others have reached their goals.

Congratulations on your decision for the extra ten. I too have been a fan since the GH days and will always be a fan . I tried nutrisystem awhile back and didn’t get anywhere because I also have to cook for a family but with medifast I can eat dinner (lightly) with them and still lose weight the rest of the day. Keep writing we love to hear from you.

Hi Genie…

I just started Medifast 3 1/2 days ago… I am 200 pounds and would like to lose 50 pounds. I’m having cravings really bad today. It’s kind of hard because it’s the weekend and I’m use to just eating whatever whenever. I hope I can stick to it because you look great and I would love to drop the excess weight.

Trying to stay strong!!!!

Hey Girl,
I have been watching you since I was in college-we are about the same age.
I stumbled across this site on the web and I had to say-you look positively beautiful! Not that you did not look nice before-but you are simply glowing!!
Congrats!
Lisa

Hi Genie,

I’ve missed you on GH and want you back! That is why I watched the view the day you were on and that is why I started Medifast. I’ve been wanting to get down to my previous weight and you gave me inspiration to do that. Seeing how thin you had gotten gave me hope. I think that you have always been beautiful but now I can tell you think that you are too! Good luck on your last 10 and congrats on the 30 that’s gone!
Truly,
Shauna
P.S. Please come back to GH! You and Luke are my favs! The shows not the same without you!
