Scale Distractions

It’s been a quiet week at home. My cousin’s family visited which was lovely — and it was so easy to go out to dinner with them! I had a dinner salad, plain grilled halibut (which is phenomenal up here in Maine) and asparagus. My biggest challenge this week was trying to remember how many Medifast Meals I had already eaten! It seems I have to write everything down these days. :)

Tuesdays are my weigh-in day. I didn’t lose any additional weight this week, which is always frustrating. I have been craving more exercise; a workout always seems to lift my spirits, so I think I’ll start tomorrow out with a nice long walk. I also want to get back to painting, since I’m feeling the need for a little distraction. I don’t want to get overly occupied with the dreaded scale! I hope you’re all having a great week.

When I was on my diet, I knitted during my lunch break at work. I heard that you are a knitter. Have you tried using that as a distraction? Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. It really helps.

Dear Genie,

I had a great week last week. We were with family in Florida and I was so happy to come home and find that I haven’t gained any weight. I had my Medifast bars in my purse so if I felt the urge for something to snack on during the 11-hr. drive, I’d be covered.
Your week sounds lovely and the halibut sounds delicious. I hope to get to Maine someday for the lobster!
You look fantastic and, as always, continue to inspire me.
I knew you painted which must be a wonderful diversion. [I write :-)] It’s wonderful to have a creative outlet. Perhaps, some day, you’ll share your work with your legions of fans.
Enjoy your walks, painting and time with family. Be good to yourself and celebrate you because you look FANTASTIC!
I send you butterflies, ;-)

Genie, don’t be discouraged. After losing 9 pounds in 3 weeks I’m not surprised you are stable for the last week. You are doing great, so keep it up!

Hi Genie! Great job on resisting temptation when dining out - that’s always so hard for me. You are doing fantastic! Hate it when the scale doesn’t budge - have you checked inches? With added exercise you might have lost some inches while the scale stayed the same. Thank you for being such a great Medifast role model!

I miss you on GH - hope you return some day; get out of that “hospital” and shake’em up with a twist to the story line! Always a pleasure to watch you on any show you’ve been on - North and South, Bare Essence (I think that is what it was called), guest spots on other shows!

Took my husband and children to Maine this June - wish I was there now enjoying the rocky coast and cold water ’cause it’s 100 here in Ohio!

Hello again, Genie,

Don’t be discouraged by not losing any additional weight. You may have hit a plateau, which is normal. Just keep plugging away and when your metabolism adjusts to your new weight, you will begin to see more pounds being shed. You already look fantastic, you can see a difference not only in your body, but in your face as well! Keep up the walking! I’ve discovered that a good brisk walk 3 or more times a week (for at least 30 minutes), can keep my waistline in tact - -even for those times that I’ve strayed from eating healthy. Not to mention walking outside is great cardio - - PLUS, it calms my mind and lifts my spirits as well!

So, you’re a painter, too? Actress, Store owner, Spokesperson, and now Painter! It’s no wonder you inspire so many people - - you can do everything! I’d certainly love to see some of your paintings!

Keep up the great work!

Sue

P.S. By the way, I know you meet a jillion people, but I had the pleasure of meeting you last December with a friend of mine. We were the gals who told you the story about your grandpa because we are from his hometown. Hope to see you again one day!

Hi Genie,

Well this is the second time that I’ve entered a comment on your blog, I guess that means that I can relate. We started around the same time and congratulations you are ahead of me by 3 pounds. I have to say I agree that the scale can be a bit distracting for me especially when it doesn’t seem to be going down as fast as we like. You are better at it than me just doing it once a week. I on the other hand weigh every day, but I’ve changed my attitude a little about it. I’m keeping myself in check, so I know to be good and see the positive results. Of course I have days where I say “good grief.” But since I’ve kicked in the exercise, I see greater results with a more forgiving scale. So keep on keeping on. I know I will.

(here are my stats: 6/7/07 - 197.4 now 184.6 age 39 - 4 kids - goal weight 135)

Hi Genie!
I know how the scale can be a huge distraction. I have me daughter hide mine until my weigh in day. The best way to think about not losing anything this week is to realize you didn’t GAIN any. That’s always a great thing. You are doing awesome, keep it up. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey.

Hi Genie,

After reading your interviews, then following your postings about Medifast, I “took the plunge” and joined too just a couple of days ago. I have followed your career in Gen. Hospital and always admired you both professionally and personally in your choices. Reading how you keep going and are so honest in trying to stay on Medifast made me want to invest myself in doing this for me. I too find it hard and have to take it day by day. I find your postings very inspiring. Thank you for being so genuine.

Sincerely,

Cath H

Just remember that even if you didn’t lose, you didn’t gain! You’re on a plateau and you look great!

hello Genie - I so totally understand about getting fixating on those dreaded numbers at the scale.
There is a part of me that feels if the scale stops, then I’m done losing and it won’t ever start again - which I know is unreasonable!
That halibut sounds absolutely wonderful. What do you cook when you are at home?

Hi Genie,

Reading your blog just reminds me how much of a struggle this is for ALL of us! You are doing great so far. Those “no loss weeks” are so defeating, but hang in there. I have lost 6 pounds so far, but I too found myself staring into the peanut butter jar. My children could live on PB&J. Keep posting and I will keep following you and knowing we are all in this together!
Keep up the good work,
Marcy

Hello Genie: First may I start off by saying I’ve enjoyed watching you on television for many years and was so very thrilled when you made your debut back to television around Christmas. Here’s hoping you will come back to General Hospital. You look great at a perfect size six.

I will be 48 years old December 13, and I am 5 ft 4′ and weigh 120 lbs. I’m trying to lose an additional 5 to 7 pounds. I’ve been listening to those outside influences and public’s perception of what it believes I should weigh instead of what is actually normal and healthy. Thank you for your inspiration.

Wow Genie you look great. I saw you last year on GH after a 20 yr span from watching & was thinking how heavy you looked. Keep up the good work, you look great!!

I’ve never visited the medifastdiet website before but was on yahoo when I saw an ad with your photo. I’m so glad I clicked through; I’ve enjoyed reading your journal entries — so down to earth — so… “real folks.” You’re an inspiration for so many; but also, the written responses inspire as well.

Your photo looks great and actually I can’t see why you would want / need to lose any more weight. You look “just right” right now!! After reading your entries, I’m considering taking the plunge and joining this program. Thank you for sharing — it’s an encouragement.

Hi, Genie!
I have been a General Hospital fan for the past seventeen years and really enjoyed what you brought to the show. Watching you on the view, and hearing of your success with Medifast, has given me the incentive to try Medifast for myself. I acturally placed my order today. I have about sixty pounds to lose, but I’ll just tell myself that ‘if Genie can do it, so can I!!!’ You truly are an ispiration.
