Over the Hump!

What a week it’s been! I spent the early part of last week in L.A. shooting a commercial for Medifast and doing some other media. Look for me on the cover of an upcoming issue of Soap Opera Digest and Quick & Simple Magazine, I did interview’s with them about my weight-loss and there should be some good photos of my progress up to this point. I feel so good about my progress, and yes, I did get over that 10 pound hump I was talking about last week… I’ve now lost 14 pounds - YEAH ME!!!!The trip gave me a first-hand lesson in how easy it is to stay on the Medifast program even when you’re on the road. I was really nervous about leaving my comfort zone at home, and having a setback, but all of that was put at ease. They had plenty of Medifast Meals on set, so in between takes I would just grab a shake or a bar, then when I got back to my hotel I would have my Lean & Green Meal. I also asked my mom to pack a Lean & Green Meal for the airplane out to L.A., which was great… Thanks Mom! :)

We also went out to dinner one night with Kristy Swanson and some of the people from Medifast. I’m not going to lie, it was tough looking around the table and seeing what everyone ordered, but I also realized that I CAN go out to dinner on Medifast and enjoy myself. We had a great time, and Kristy and I got to share some of our early Medifast experiences. By the way, Kristy looks fantastic and is off to a great start as well!

I noticed there have been a lot of comments on my first journal entry, which is really exciting. Thanks so much for the support! I was thinking since I just got back from California, this could be a good time for you Medifast travelers out there to share your experiences on the road and how you stick to the program. This could really help some people new to Medifast who might be nervous about traveling and having a setback. So feel free to add a comment and help everyone out!

That is so awesome that you were successful while you traveled. Congratulations on the 14 pounds. WOOHOO!! I have found that the MF foods that travel best for me are the RTD shakes, bars, and oatmeal cookies. I have also gone to the websites of local restaurants and pulled up their menus and nutritional information. It has helped me to get an idea of what I can eat for create to satisfy my L&G meals. For example, I was with people who wanted to go to Burger King(yuck). I didn’t know what I was going to do. I discovered that BK has a veggie burger, and it’s flame broiled. So, I got that with lots of lettuce and tomatoes, pickles, a little mustard and no bun. It worked out in the end. The key to success when traveling is planning ahead.
Can’t wait to hear more on your progress.

My family went on vacation this summer and I too was scared to leave my comfort zone. I gained 4 pounds on vacation. I really thought I would have gained more. I beat myself up over it for a minute then forgave myself and moved on. I have already lost those four pounds but find that my weight fluxuates by 5 pounds up or down. This has been frustrating for the past month. Your posts have been encouraging. I don’t feel guilty anymore, I just get back on track with a hopeful attitude. Thanks and keep posting!

I enjoy the cappucino mixed with 3/4 of a bottle of cold water more than the RTD shakes. I make oatmeal cookies (5 per batch!) for the airplane and to have in the rental car when I don’t want to eat a “fast food” L&G on the go. There also seem to be microwaves in most gas stations and hotel lobbies so I enjoy the soups and oatmeal as the opportunity arises.

Hello again Genie,

I just wanted to say how fabulous you look! The before and after pictures on the Medifast homepage are amazing - - and you are only at the half way point? Don’t disappear on us!! I just read the SID and SOD articles. I also come from a gene pool that tends to be a bit heavier than average. I am a petite person (about 5′2″), so one pound can look like 5 pounds! I was also at a point in my life a few years ago when I really didn’t care about my weight and ballooned up 25 pounds. Not only did this affect my appearance and self-image, it also affected my blood pressure and my cholesterol. There is a lot of diabetes and heart disease in my family and I refused to give in and just accept that as my fate. Now, in my 40’s as well, I’m making my health a priority. I lost the 25 pounds. Feeling vibrant and living a long, healthy life is more important than the immediate gratification of a chocolate cupcake! Keep up the good work!!

P.S. I have a 5 year old Blue Persian. His name is “Mojo” as well!!

Congrats on your loss Genie! You will see that size 6 before you know it!

I have had to travel for work and it was really no big deal. I went to a restraunt for my L&G and everything else was bars and RTD shakes. I do happen to have this wonderful little mini blender that fits perfectly in a suitcase, so I took some of the regular shakes as well and just had a good ole time while sitting in my hotel room in the evening!

I look forward to reading more about your journey and successes.

Keep up the great work!

Congrat Genie!!! Isn’t it wonderful to see the pounds coming off? I started the program on June 1 and have lost 24 pounds. I am only doing the vanilla shakes and the bars. I just made a road trip from North Dakota back to New Hampshire, where I grew up and on the road I mixed my vanilla shakes with diet orange or diet root beer sodas. I just packed some TALL disposable cups and straws to mix and drink it with. It foams up just like a float! And so easy too. I lost 3 pounds in the 3 weeks I was gone and still at my lobster with butter, just not as much butter! On my next trip back to NH I hope I can come up and visit your shop. Look forward to reading your posts and best of luck to you.

Genie,
I did this because you gave me the inspiration. I am now down 15 pounds in just 4 weeks, my biggest problem is that I don’t feel hungry most of the time, and have to force myself to eat my meals, drinking the water isn’t a problem. Thanks for doing what you do to keep us all encouraged.

The cold drinks work great for me when travelling or even out for the day. The peach and raspberry ice tea, tropical punch, or the cranberry-mango cold drinks are so portable and easy to make.

You can buy a bottle of water anywhere, drink 1/2 and use the other 1/2 for one of the drinks.

I always leave one of those packets or a bar in my purse just in case.

Good luck and hope this works for you.

Hi Genie
I am so impressed with the weight you have lost. Good job. I will not say you look great because I think you looked great since I started watching you when you were playing Laura Baldwin on GH, a long long time ago. I two have been losing weight very slowly but I am doing it. I am doing it by myself. I have also reduced my cholestrol by 50, which is the best part of the 2 pounds I have lost. I am shooting for 10 more in the next few months or longer if it takes. I know if I loose it too fast it will come right back on. For me it is all behavior modification. Something I learned in Weight Watchers many years ago. I hope to see you returning to your role someday, it is so good to watch apart of my youger years and know we have something in common. Good luck to you.

Hi Genie,
Congrats on your weight loss! You should be really proud of yourself, as it takes a GREAT deal of willpower. I, too, remember how tiny you were back in the “Laura Baldwin” days in 1979, but after we hit 30 and a few children later, our weight shifts - EVERYWHERE!! You look great and keep up the good work. I’m sure I speak for everyone that watches, but I would love to see you back on GH sometime in the near future…even if it’s just a visit. Margo

Hi Genie,

It’s such a great feeling to finally find something that works. You look wonderful, but I always thought you did. I myself have been on the plan and have lost 22 lbs. Being a type 2 diabetic, my goal was to be off of my insulin, which happened two weeks ago. With all the different diets I have been on, Medifast changed my life. My goal is to lose an additional 25lbs. Good luck to you, good luck to us.

Sincerely,

Donna

Hi Genie,

Stopped in to your wonderful store in Belfast last weekend and of course you weren’t there! Hope you are having a great time in Toronto. I am beginning the Medifast program tomorrow and wanted to say that you have motivated me to start this program. I want to lose 30 pounds! There are moments in one’s life when you can remember where you were during a significant event. Luke and Laura’s wedding way back was one of those days for me. I am starting the program with the Woman’s Health shakes (hot flashes are killing me) - Here is hoping you and I both reach our goals. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sincerely,
Patti Maclay
